UNCLE! SO, CAN ANYONE OUT THERE TELL ME THE NAME OF THIS PLANT?

It has a light fragrance like honeysuckle.
The leaves are thick and waxy and have this shape and configuration.
It grows like a small shrub. It has some hardiness to freezes, but dies back each winter here in Houston.
The new buds have a reddish tint. New growth can be vine-like.
I've never seen it for sale, but this gardener had 5 different shrubs.
Anyone have this plant or know the name?
For comparison, here's a Sweet Autumn Clematis. The two plants are different species though in my mind, they 'feel' like they should be related. I'm probably wrong and that's OKAY.
Any ideas? I've already cried uncle and given up.
Thanks for any help!
