It has a light fragrance like honeysuckle.
The leaves are thick and waxy and have this shape and configuration.
It grows like a small shrub. It has some hardiness to freezes, but dies back each winter here in Houston.
The new buds have a reddish tint. New growth can be vine-like.
I've never seen it for sale, but this gardener had 5 different shrubs.
Anyone have this plant or know the name?
For comparison, here's a Sweet Autumn Clematis. The two plants are different species though in my mind, they 'feel' like they should be related. I'm probably wrong and that's OKAY.
Any ideas? I've already cried uncle and given up.
Thanks for any help!

Looks a lot like some sort of jasmine to me, Sue
ReplyDeleteI believe it is the Malabar Jasmine, Jasminum malabaricum.
ReplyDeleteWell, I was going to say star jasmine but that's not right...however I suspect it is somewhere in that vein of plants. Hopefully someone an identify it for you!
ReplyDeleteOkay, you had me searching for you! Is it possibly Jasminum nitidum?
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone! You had great suggestions. I'll be taking this list of rare jamines with me when I go hunting around at the garden centers and mom and pop nurseries. The treasure hunt will be fun.
ReplyDeleteIf that doesn't work, I'll just have to bite the bullet and knock on the gardeners door to see where they found 4 of these rare jasmines for sale! David/:0)
It's angel wing jasmine, David. I have it on a trellis on the Laverton side of the house.
