GARDEN BOOK REVIEW: GARDENING IN THE SOUTHWEST by SUNSET BOOKS

My gardening life changed the moment I snatched this one off the shelf at a local bookstore. Every photo on every page was inspiring. Usually even a great book on gardening has a few 'slow' spots. But not this one.
With over 300 sensational photos, there's lots to see.

And it's not all prickly cacti. There are dazzling flowers, water features, colorful walls, and nifty garden nooks throughout the book.

There are chapters on climate, courtyard gardens, small gardens, sculptural gardens, wildlife gardens, plants for xeriscapes, and a special chapter on garden design.

Usually the Sunset books are for beginners. But I found myself entranced by the designs, the colors, and the creative format of this almost 200 page book.

As you can see by the images of my front garden, I've got a southwest spirit even though I garden in the eastern part of the state.
That's it for this time. For over 100 more garden reviews, visit my nifty garden friend, Holley.

Thanks for galloping on over to my book review, partner!
Until next time,

  4. Lovely set-up.
The only think I'm cautious about is the agave's thorns & spikes.
And they do really well in a hot sunny spot without my watering.

  7. Is that a new book, David? I have run across quite a few Sunset books that really inspire me, including Hillside Landscaping and the Outdoor Living Series from a few years ago: http://www.penick.net/digging/?p=426 Lots of great pics and good how-to info.
