2012 WARMEST ON RECORD FOR HOUSTON CLIMATE

As you can see in the RED column, 2012 takes top spot on Houston's climate list for warmest year. By far, the heat during the summers of 2011 and 2010 were MUCH higher than 2012. But 2012 tops all other years because of so many warmer nights throughout all the seasons coupled with average highs throughout the year. It seemed like a cooler year only because of the sweltering summers and record droughts the year before.
My zone 9 garden was actually a zone 10a garden with no freezes in early 2012 and no freezes in late 2012. For a tropical gardener, it's a nice year when you don't have to put all your plants in the greenhouse. But for the planet, I do worry about the changes to our climate.
Here's my annual monthly chart for 2012.

  1. It's always interesting to see this type of information. It's also amazing to me that we are only a couple hundred miles from each other and our weather is so different. We were so much hotter in 2011 and 2012 seemed like a relatively mild summer in comparison.

  2. I live in London, in a zone 9a climate too, 2012 was practically the opposite for every month for us compared to you! Cold and dry January and February, record warm and dry March (people were sun bathing on the beach!). From April we had rain and cool weather until....well we still have it! November and December was mild, but that is not unusual here, and half the country was flooded by the rain. 2012 was the wettest on record (since 1910) in England and the second wettest in UK. So now you know where all the rain you didn't get went :-)
