LAST DAY OF SCHOOL, THEN A SUMMER OF GARDENING!

I love my job. But, for a gardener, getting up early and driving AWAY from your garden is torture. I'm looking forward to FOUR things this summer:
Playing with our new kittens all summer!

Then taking them out to the garden so they can be my helpers.
Do they look like they're ready to help out in the garden?

I'm looking forward to asking Cindy at My Corner of Katy (next to my school!) what these gorgeous flowers are. (Then begging her for a cutting)
Knowing her green thumb, they are probably Icelandic Poppies and she's figured out a way to get them to grow in Texas. LOL

I'm looking forward to adding flowers and plants to my own cottage garden. If you don't have a cottage garden you should try it!

I've never been one for flowers, but I must say if you find native and easy to grow flowers, the rewards are immeasurable.

And the last thing:

Getting to visit my 50 Nifty Garden Friends (and others!) and leaving comments. During the school year that is the one part of blogging I can't maintain. The school kids come first and I have to put my time into their lessons.
But during the summer, I get to visit all those other garden blogs! Hurray!

Year 31 is done! Happy Summer, my students.
I'm headed out to the garden now!

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Yes, I'd like to know about those flowers too. White wine cups? Geraniums? They certainly do look pretty. And yes, I can imagine just how excited you are about those mornings in the garden. Have a wonderful summer.

  2. Yes yes yes!!!! Tonight I did a celebratory clean up around El Presidio. It's all summer out in the garden! I was so excited. I like my job with the kids but am ready to be out and about living life. It was torture the past two days to leave for work while the weather was soooo nice! And there's always that....well maybe I should do this or that....and then the blogging! I want to drink coffee and read blogs and then get my butt outside and work or maybe in our case....play. And your kitties are so cute!! We have 5 here and to be honest I don't know what I'd do without them. They make me smile so much. Have fun! I know it's going to be an awesome summer!! Cheers! Chris

  4. Looks like you are off to a good start on your summer vacation. Lots of good plans. I'll be looking forward to your cottage garden updates. Thankfully, summer is ending on this side of the globe. I don't think my plants can take much more heat. Also, the children seem excited to be back in school with their friends. I just wish I could say the same about the schoolwork.

Hope the weather doesn't get too hot for playing in the garden, all summer.

  7. Aww, the kittens are absolutely adorable! And I'm sure they can "help" a lot in the garden with all those nice flowers around their playful nature :) I would keep an eye on them ;)

  8. Hi David, School is out for summer! Hurrah! It is time to Garden!
31 years is real dedication to the profession of teaching and your students. I have to say that I find it is inspirational to think that after all that time, you still love your job! I not managed to be able to say that I love what I do in more recent years, but am working on changing all that.
Rest, relax, and enjoy the summer weather. Your little garden helpers are adorable!
P.S. Hope you get a piece of that flower. Very pretty!

  9. Happy summer gardening. What do you teach, if I may please ask as I am also an educator? Is it art?

  10. Congratulations on 31 years of teaching. If I had to do it all over again, that would be the profession I choose. Both my daughters are teachers (2nd and 5th year) Enjoy the garden.

  11. Congratulations on 31 years! Enjoy your summer! I'm finding less time to blog this summer, as my oldest is out of preschool, and I've set up sort of a morning summer school to keep my kids entertained. It's been a while since I've done lesson planning! (I was a teacher before staying home with the kids.)

I love cottage gardens with their profusion of flowers. It's usually the style I end up with - a mess of flowers!

  12. Oh my gosh- the kittens! SO CUTE! 31 years- go you! I taught 12 while living in Houston- did not continue it here once I moved to Austin. I miss it all the time. The kids are lucky to have you.
